September Highlights

September is a time of celebration in Guatemala.

Independence Day is the 15th.

Leading up to this are lots of civic activities

that the students enjoy.

Sonia studied with us until fifth grade. She decided
she would rather sell in the market than study.
This is a common profession for women in Santa Maria.
I'm glad she can read and write. Most ladies can't.
We are here to give them opportunity to go as far as they want.

I walked out the door of the school and saw this boy with his chickens.
They were headed for the market.
I don't speak chicken squawk too well but I think I heard them yelling
"Eat more beef!"
